Personal media assistant Dijit to launch iPad app

By Natan Edelsburg

In September, Dijit, an app that can act as a universal remote for your entertainment system, launched a slew of social features including Facebook recommendations, YouTube search integrations and their own check-in. Today, the San Francisco based startup has announced their first iPad app.

Jeremy Toeman, Dijit’s Chief Product Officer, described the new product:

In a nutshell, we’ve taken our iPhone app, and reimagined it for the iPad. We’ve tried to think through all the nuance of what a full, 10″ entertainment console sitting on a user’s coffee table should look like. We’ve made it very iPad-centric, and thought through nuances like how to visually help a user through seemingly complicated tasks like customizing a remote control layout or learn an IR code. Also, we’ve designed it to be very ergonomic, in that key features are lined up with where users typically hold their iPads. In a nutshell we’re extremely proud of this app and think our existing Dijit users will love it, new users will to, and it’s a fabulous addition to our family as well as for all owners of the Griffin Beacon for iOS.

Dijit on the iPad is going to really allow you to “feel” your home entertainment system like never before. They’re also going to be going head-on with the other iPad products out there (GetGlue, Miso, Yap.tv, Umami, IntoNow, Zeebox and more). At first glance, the design and UI look beautiful, and it may be an app great for bending your head down during a commercial or really boring moment on TV. The great part is, since the app is a universal remote too, you can just search and change the channel with a tap.

We had mentioned that on their iPhone they’re bridging an important relationship between YouTube content and TV. With the iPad playback it will be even more seamless to watch a show and then check out what the world of user-generated has added to the equation.
