Nielsen: 2015-2016 Social TV Year In Review

By Karen Fratti

Now that the dog days of summer are upon us, it’s officially the end of the 2015-2016 television season. Nielsen took the opportunity to go back and look at some of the highlights and breakdown what shows and networks, among other things, had viewers engaged throughout the year.

For example, there was an average of 435,000 tweets every episode of the top social program, The Walking Dead, for the third year in a row. Empire, on Fox, was the most talked about premiere, with around 1.3 million tweets.

When it comes to specials and sports, the Super Bowl is obviously a big leader, with 16.9 million tweets about the game this year (and Beyoncé, of course). The Grammys and and the Oscars were right behind the big game.
