News Director
News 14 Carolina (Time Warner Cable)

PURPOSE: Responsible for the successful management of the Greensboro
Division News 14 Carolina operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides day-to-day operational leadership, determines daily news
content and directs execution of coverage including reporting and
producing.
2. Assist with creation of strategic plan. Coordinates Efforts with
News Directors in Raleigh and Charlotte.
3. Hires, supervises, trains and develops Greensboro News staff.
Responsible for performance appraisals. Determines schedules for
24-hour news department coverage including free-lance personnel.
4. Approves timesheets, overtime and vacation request.
5. Other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING: Determines news content and coverage. Must have
sound news judgment, the ability to make coverage decisions quickly
and work calmly under pressure.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
1. Develop understanding of key public policy and community issues
affecting the News 14 Carolina coverage area.
2. Responsible for meeting operating budget expectations.
3. Know and support important Time Warner Cable Greensboro Division
public affairs and marketing initiatives.
4. Provide professional representation of News 14 Carolina and Time
Warner Cable to public, government officials, civic and business
leaders.
5. Maintain a cooperative working partnership with Time Warner Cable
Media Sales.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for providing direct and
indirect supervision to a staff of approximately 12 employees.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent written and oral
communication skills and strong interpersonal communication
abilities. Must be able to supervise, motivate, train and develop all
direct reports. Good organizational skills, strong computer skills.
Extensive knowledge of television news journalism practices, ethics
and procedures. Must have the ability to work in each position in the
newsroom. Operate various office machines including computer and
office software. Must have thorough knowledge of operations and
office policies and procedures.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: 4 year college degree required, journalism degree
preferred.
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: 5 years television news experience
including 2 years as an Executive Producer or Assistant News
Director. Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years prior supervisory
experience in a television news environment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES: Some travel required.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL FUNCTIONS: Must have the ability to handle various
task simultaneously, organize, prioritize, make decisions and
efficiently and effectively under deadlines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS: Will work inside throughout the year,
including on call status, but will support remote news and community
activities. Must be able to live in the Greensboro area with home
access to Time Warner Cable.
