New Big Brother Gives Audience More Power

Big Brother “The audience will have more influence over the game than ever before!” promises a promo for the new Big Brother: Over the Top. The show will be exclusive to CBS All Access, the network’s digital offering that costs $5.99 a month ($9.99 a month if you don’t want to watch commercials). If you’re a subscriber, you’ll see an interactive show that lets you play along with the game in a more interactive setting.

There will be 24/7 live feeds with “No scheduled blackouts!” as the promo breathlessly shouts. The interface has live chats that surround the different camera feeds. It’s very Big Brother (1984 style), even for Big Brother (CBS style).

CBS viewer powerFull length episodes (“With live evictions!”) stream Wednesdays at 10pm/9c. That means no delay for the West Coast, so no worries about Twitter spoilers. Subscribers will also have access to the show’s complete archives.


The network is promising “The audience will have more influence over the game than ever before,” saying “Your votes count more than ever.” It doesn’t give more details as to how that will work, however.

CBS is putting some big original franchises on its All Access offering, hoping to draw subscribers. Star Trek: Discovery and a spinoff of The Good Wife are also going to be exclusive to the digital-only channel.

Big Brother: Over the Top premieres Sept. 28.
