Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Already Sparking Social Conversation

While many gushed over the Magic Mike XXL trailer this morning, Netflix did some teasing of its own.

The first trailer for its 13-episode version of Marvel’s “Daredevil” was released this morning. You can take Amazon’s star directors. This show is gritty, shot and based in NYC, and full of stars like Vincent D’Onofrio, Rosario Dawson, and Deborah Ann Woll. Who’s creepier than Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin?

Yes, the trailer is dark (in so many ways). But that’s exciting. It’s a superhero show that doesn’t look like a superhero show, which is a big draw for comic laymen like myself.

While Amazon dabbles in dramedy it more reminiscent of a major network. Safe, funny and smart, but safe. But it’s hard to not see Netflix as a stronger contender when it comes to original content. Between the darker themed shows “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black,” its odder comedies like “Lillyhammer,” and stand-up comedy specials,  Netflix is a very cool blend of HBO and, say, IFC.

Already, “Daredevil” fanatics are pleased that the show is back to its Hell’s Kitchen roots and it touches on themes and plot points left out of that Ben Affleck version.

That’s a very good thing. Here the trailer. And it is really, really dark, lighting-wise so if you can actually see Rosario Dawson please let us know. Episodes start airing April 10, about three months after you’ve finished “House of Cards,” out this week.
