Miss USA will ask contestant question from Twitter

Those “final questions” in beauty pageants are often the source of entertainment and controversy. You may remember two years ago, Miss USA judge Perez Hilton asked Carrie Prejean about her stance on same-sex marriage, sparking a big backlash. This year, Miss USA will select a question from Twitter to ask one of the final five contestants.

Beginning today, fans who tweet their question with the hashtag #AskMissUSA will be considered. “We wanted to add an element of suspense by integrating social media into the Final Question portion. It will all come down to one contestant, one fan and 140 characters,” said Barry Adelman, executive producer.

A quick search of Twitter shows some interesting questions, for sure.

The live broadcast (Sunday 9 p.m. ET on NBC) will also showcase live tweets during the swimsuit and evening gown sections of the competition. And fans can vote online for their favorite contestant for an automatic spot in the semifinals.
