Roald Dahl’s Matilda was published in 1988. A film adaptation was released in 1996, and the titular musical opened in 2010.

In the film, Matilda Wormwood (Alisha Weir) is a curious little girl with a smart mind, vivid imagination and the world’s worst parents. She enjoys losing herself in her favorite books, but her parents (Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough) are content with trashy television and shady money-making schemes.

Matilda is inspired by her teacher, Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch), and begins to conjure her own imaginative tales. She is overjoyed to be attending Crunchem Hall, only to discover that the school is a dreadful and repressive place overseen by the wicked Miss Trunchbull (Emma Thompson).

Matilda, driven by a strong sense of justice, decides to stand up for what is right and teach Trunchbull a lesson she will never forget.
