Major League Baseball streaming live Yankees/Nationals game on Twitter

By Alex Weprin

Twitter has already played home to some original series, but this afternoon the social network will be adding another first: the first live baseball game streamed through the service. Starting at 2 PM ET, MLB will be streaming the New York Yankees/Washington Nationals game.

You could watch it through your MLB At Bat smartphone app, or through MLB.com, but why would you do that when you can watch it right through Twitter? A one-stop shop for watching the game and following the discussion about the game.

As Twitter gets more and more entrenched in the television world, it is worth taking note of these experiments. MLB may be using it as a way to show off their MLB.tv service, but it is also a proof of concept. If baseball can stream live through Twitter, then in theory other live events can too.
