impracticaljokers trutvTurner Broadcasting is planning to get people drawn into their new shows by offering them on-demand right away. After the August 25 premiere of TNT’s Public Morals, four episodes will be immediately available on-demand. Same goes for two episodes of truTV’s Friends of the People, which will be available for a sneak preview before the premiere.

John Harran, senior vice president of business & product development at Turner Content Distribution says in an official statement that:

Turner is embracing a different approach to the way programming is traditionally released and providing our audiences with multiple binge-viewing options in order to enhance their TV experience. Taking a creative approach to on demand programming and listening to viewer behavior, as well as working with our distribution partners to reach as many of their subscribers as possible, is a strategic way to engage audiences who have become accustomed to these new ways of viewing content.

They are also making all seasons of Cold Justice available for binge watchers. The third season is currently airing, and those episodes are being released the day after broadcast, but viewers will be able to catch up on seasons one and two. TruTV’s Joker’s Week starts September 3 and to push for viewership, they’re releasing every single episode ever of Impractical Jokers. Impractical Jokers will celebrate their 100th episode this fall and finished Q1 this year as one of the top three shows in the 18-49 demographic.

By making the shows and past season available via set top VOD, the websites, and their apps, Turner’s harnessing that audience just wants to consume reality content without having to wait for it. HBO often releases premieres and teaser episodes of new shows on their VOD platforms and its a good way to get people excited and remind them that it’s premiere season. Why be greedy with your content?
