Infographic: ‘America’s Got Talent’ Premiere Has Tweeters in Tears

By Adam Flomenbaum

The top show of the summer, ‘America’s Got Talent,’ returned this week, and it provided its customary dose of amazement and inspiring stories.

According to our analytics partners Canvs – the first completely syndicated qualitative social TV platform – 33,941 of 70,527 tweets (Nielsen Social) about the show were emotional reactions. The show’s top moment came when Howie Mandel hit the golden buzzer for comedian Drew Lynch.

While it only accounted for 4% of all emotional reactions, “Cried” words (including “bawling,” “heartbroken,” and “i’m done”) are rarely seen. The show often finds contestants who are not only ultra talented, but also have made incredible journeys to get to the stage.

Below, additional analysis from Sheila Seles, Product Services and Marketing Lead at Canvs, followed by an infographic:
Comedian Drew Lynch stole the show. Lynch was mentioned in nearly 10,000 reactions, and his handle (@thedrewlynch) was the most mentioned, appearing in 28% of reactions. For comparison, the most popular judge, Howie Mandel was only mentioned in 3,500 reactions and the rest of the judges didn’t even break the 1,000 mark. Howie made a good choice sending Drew Lynch straight to the live shows–fans clearly want to see more of him.
