HBO Max Rolls Out Updated App for Apple TV Users

HBO Max has released their latest connected TV app update as they launched a new tvOS application for Apple users in an effort to improve the user experience across devices.

From the moment viewers sign in for the first time, The Streamable reports the redesigned app will focus on making the viewer’s experience inside the app easier and more pleasurable, and it will continue to improve the more viewers engage with the service.

The update will make it easier to sign up and sign in, increase the ability to binge series seamlessly, and include more user curation features, such as a comprehensive “My Stuff” experience that allows users to edit and sort their “My List” and “Continue Watching” lists, the Streamable reports.

In addition, the update adds a new scrollable, interactive hero banner to the top of content hubs for a better homepage experience.

While the improvements may not be immediately obvious, the business claims that the update’s primary goal is to improve the app’s reliability and speed.

HBO Max’s evp for global product management Sarah Lyons told The Streamable, since its introduction, one of the most common complaints from customers has been that the app would frequently crash or stall on Roku, which, given that Roku is the most popular platform for HBO Max members, posed a huge problem for both users and the service. She said the current re-platforming for the Roku experience has resulted in a roughly 90% reduction in crash rates.

She also mentioned that they worked hard to improve the speed of HBO Max on Android, reducing the app’s launch time by 46%.

Roku, PlayStation, Android, Samsung, LG, Vizio, Vodafone, Comcast Xfinity X1 and Flex, and Cox Contour have all received the new HBO Max tech stack based on You.i’s engine, according to Variety.

Following the Apple TV upgrade, Variety reports WarnerMedia aims to offer a new version for Amazon’s Fire TV, which will be followed by improvements to the streamer’s online version.
