HBO Max and Hulu Share Streaming Rights to Abbott Elementary

HBO Max and Hulu subscribers will be able to stream the first season of the breakout series Abbott Elementary.

The two streaming giants will share co-exclusive streaming rights to the award-nominated workplace comedy. Created by and starring Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary follows a group of teachers in a Philadelphia public school dedicated to giving their students the best education in spite of limited funds and an inept school principal. Brunson serves as executive producer alongside Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Randall Einhorn.

The first season of Abbott Elementary was received with glowing reviews and a 98% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show made history this year as Brunson was the first Black woman to receive 3 comedy Emmy nominations. She is the youngest Black actress ever nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress comedy category, and the show received 7 Emmy nominations in total, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing For a Comedy Series, Outstanding Casting and supporting acting nominations for Tyler James Williams, Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

The 13-episode first season is currently available on Hulu and will stream on HBO Max starting Aug. 20. Season 2 of Abbott Elementary returns on Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC and will be available on Hulu the day after each broadcast premiere. Complete seasons will appear on HBO Max.
