Foursquare's big week of new features

By Cory Bergman

Tech media darling Foursquare rolled out a bevy of new features this week, which the company officially announced today.

Among them, Foursquare is now available everywhere, instead of being bucketed in large cities. The leaderboards will be based on proximity, instead of the city you’re in. You no longer have to type in an address to add a new venue (the GPS locates it for you), and they added a few new badges, too.

Foursquare also promised a Blackberry version of the app in the next week, better location-awareness on the iPhone, and a “trending nearby” feature to display hot places.
