FBoy Island Canceled at HBO Max After 2 Seasons

The reality dating show FBoy Island has been canceled at HBO Max after two seasons.

The series follows three women trying to determine whether 24 men are Lotharios (“FBoys”) or looking for a long-term relationship (“nice guys”). The series premiered on the streamer in July 2021 before being renewed a month later in August. The second season aired in July.

The cancellation joins the long list of programming either canceled by or pulled from the streaming service over the past several months. More cuts and cancellations are looming as Warner Bros. Discovery plans to merge HBO Max and Discovery+ into a single streaming service, which is set to launch in spring 2023.

WBD CEO David Zaslav has defended the cancellations of multiple HBO Max shows and bigger-budget movies, along with eliminating dozens of titles from the streaming service, as a necessary business decision.

According to Zaslav, WBD is looking at what people were watching on HBO Max and determining where to invest future funds.

That apparently doesn’t extend to unscripted shows, with Variety reporting no unscripted series at HBO Max has been renewed since the Discovery-WarnerMedia merger in April.

The news outlet previously reported that following 70 layoffs across HBO and HBO Max, Casey Bloys, the chief content officer, explained in a memo how scripted programming would take center stage for the brand, which “involves an honest assessment of what we need moving forward.”
