Eragon TV Series in the Works at Disney+

By Jessica Lerner

A live-action Eragon TV series is in the early stages of development at Disney+, according to Variety.

The four books in Christopher Paolini’s young adult novel series The Inheritance Cycle, the first of which is Eragon, would serve as the basis for the proposed television series.

The novels, set in the mythical country of Alagaësia, center on the exploits of a young man named Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, as they battle to topple the tyrannical king Galbatorix.

Eragon, the first novel in the series, was self-published by Paolini in 2001 and later republished in 2003 by Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers. The remaining three books, Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance, were released in 2005, 2008 and 2011, respectively.

This wouldn’t be the first time Eragon has been adapted. A feature film based on the first book was released in 2006 and starred Ed Speleers, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich and Djimon Hounsou. Although the movie garnered mostly unfavorable reviews, it ended up topping $250 million at the box office.
