E! Gears Up for Globes With a ‘Glambot’ and ‘Partyscopes’

By Karen Fratti

eredcarperAwards season starts this weekend with the Golden Globes. And with awards shows comes the red carpet shows, packed with digital and social initiatives to engage viewers throughout the evening. E! will be covering the show all day, starting at 4 p.m. with a Countdown to the Red Carpet, the Live Red Carpet Show, and then the E! After Party.

This year they have a new red carpet feature. The network collaborated with Joseph Kahn, who directed Taylor’s Swift’s Bad Blood, and Out of the Woods videos, to create the E! Glambot, which is an 8-foot robotic arm that will be taking photos of the stars as the arrive and will feed directly to E!’s Instagram account. Viewers won’t have to miss a look.

In an attempt to engage fans, they are asking viewers to Periscope their own viewing parties, calling it Partyscopes, will be part of E!’s coverage.

On Snapchat, they’ll be taking Glam Snaps, featuring experts such as Florido Basallo, who is Justin Bieber’s hairstylist, to talk hair and makeup and how to recreate the looks at home.

Likewise, they’ll be all over Twitter and Instagram with #ERedCarpet providing exclusive behind-the-scenes content for fans. And just so you don’t have to explain to your pop culture-immune family who’s who, E! will air “Star Stats” on screen all night to give you some background about who they are and what they’re there for.

There’s a good reason to go all out: the Globes are huge. Last year, the live red carpet show drove over 106 million page views, which was a 46 percent increase from 2014. In 2014, the Globes even beat the Oscars for page delivery by 9 percent.

The Countdown to the Red Carpet will be hosted by Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, joined by pop culture guru Ross Mathews, correspondent Zuri Hall and entertainment expert Dave Karger.

Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic will anchor the main Red Carpet Live! Show, with various E! talent in and out throughout the night. Post show, Maria Menounos will do interviews and Catt Sadler will be on call for after party attendees.
