Duffer Brothers Reveal Stranger Things 5 and Spinoff Details

By Rebecca Theodore-Vachon

Stranger Things co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer gave the scoop on the fifth season of Stranger Things and plans for a spinoff series.

The Duffer Brothers were on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast and addressed the rumors surrounding the Stranger Things spinoff.

The pair shot down the notion that there would be a spinoff about Eleven, Steve or Dustin. The brothers noted that the original show already covers those characters, and the spinoff is “very different” from what fans have seen.

The Duffers went on to say the spinoff will be “1,000% different” than the flagship series, adding that the strongest connection between the original and the spinoff will be “storytelling sensibility.”

As for the fifth season of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers said viewers could expect accelerated storytelling and fewer episodes, with character arcs already in motion. The season will already have a “goal and a drive” thanks to Stranger Things 4, and the new season will feel very different.

Stranger Things Season 4 has been a ratings monster for Netflix, with Vol. 1 pulling in 7.2 billion viewing minutes according to Nielsen’s recent streaming ratings report. It is also the most-watched English language series on Netflix and on the Top 10 list in 91 countries.
