Comcast and Charter Communications’ Streaming Platform Is Named Xumo

Comcast and Charter Communications’ streaming platform joint venture will now operate as Xumo.

Through this, the brand changes from a free ad-supported streaming TV service, which Comcast acquired in a $100 million-plus deal in 2020, to an “entertainment ecosystem” that includes streaming devices, content and a platform for partners to reach larger audiences.

Comcast, Charter and Walmart will distribute Xumo’s first branded products when they launch at the end of 2023. Additional distributors will be revealed later.

Xumo’s FAST service, later to be renamed Xumo Play, will offer hundreds of linear channels as well as on-demand selections from an expanding number of networks and content providers. On Xumo devices, Xumo Play will serve as the focus of free content selection, and it will still be accessible as an app on other streaming services.

“Since 2011, the Xumo brand has connected with millions of customers across the country, establishing itself as a leader in the free ad-supported TV industry for the innovative ways it delivers content to its users,” Marcien Jenckes, president of Xumo, said in a statement. “The new Xumo will bring industry-leading streaming and aggregation technology nationwide through its expanding content, product line up and retailer relationships.”

Additionally, Charter and Comcast revealed that Flex, the 4K streaming device that Comcast licensed to the joint venture, will be known as Xumo Stream Box, and XClass TV will be known as Xumo TV. Both devices will make it simple for users to find and enjoy their favorite streaming content thanks user interface and voice search.
