CBSN is the #1 Ranked News Channel…. On Roku

By Adam Flomenbaum

Since launching in November, CBS News has been the top ranked news channel on Roku. “CBSN” (the name of CBS News’ digital initiative) led all news channels in terms of hours streamed on the over-the-top platform, and the network has plans to roll out across additional services and devices in 2015.

The average CBSN viewer on Roku watches for more than two hours per week, and although viewers are accessing CBSN across a number of platforms and devices, connected TV and over-the-top platforms drive the highest engagement numbers: 52% of CBSN streams are on such platforms, while 30% are on PCs and 17% are on phones and tablets.

Social and digital has certainly replaced linear for live, breaking news coverage, and CBSN is no exception. Users are watching live over DVR and on-demand programming by 3:1, and top stories in terms of viewership include the Grand Jury decision in Ferguson, MO, the disappearance of AirAsia Flight 8501, the Sydney hostage situation and shooting, the attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris, and the developing U.S.-Cuba relations.
