BET Plans Extensive Social and Digital Activations for the 2014 Hip Hop Awards

snoop-doggThe BET Hip Hop Awards 2014 are set to air October 14 and will be hosted by Uncle Snoop. In the lead up, the network is planning its most extensive digital and social activations to date.

According to Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings from SocialGuide, last year’s Hip Hop Awards was the #1 social TV program on cable for October 2013; the audience sent over 2.5 million Tweets that reached more than 6.8 million people, making it the third most tweeted about telecast (excluding sports) on cable for 2013.

Cyphers: In addition to ‘Inside the Cypher’ and ‘Behind the Cypher’ – inside looks and interviews with MCs discussing their creative process – BET.com will publish two internet-only cyphers slated to be released before the premiere of the awards.

Interactive Voting: BET.com/HipHopAwards will allow users to vote on the best performance from the show. The voting is live and kicks off immediately after the show airs through 5 PM the following day, when the winner will be announced on ‘106 & Park.’

Where Were You When: BET Social will engage viewers with 20 questions about some of hip hop’s most iconic moments, utilizing Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and BET.com.

#HipHopBracket: Each week, fans will get to cast their vote via social media for their favorite hiphop crew via head-to-head match ups – but these “games” will live on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. Bracket results will reside on BET.com. Memes will be deployed match-up by match-up, instructing fans how they can cast their votes.

– Hyperlapse Performances: BET Social Media will use Instagram’s hyperlapse app to create high speed playback videos of the #hiphopawards performances to tease tune in.
