BBC America Teasing Out ‘Orphan Black’ Fans for New Season

By Karen Fratti

orphanblack“Orphan Black” is a show that depends on its fans, especially since no one will officially recognize its writing or its star. The #CloneClub has a strong Twitter presence. Which is why BBC America is asking them to vote for their favorite episode for #OrphanBlackFriday in preparation for the kick off of season 3. Fans are asked to vote up until November 13 via the official site. BBC America will air a six episode marathon — starting with the series premiere — based on the fan picks. If you’re a fan this is very good news for your Thanksgiving weekend; if you’re into marketing television, it’s a good example of how to cultivate and keep your fans interested during the hiatus.

BBC America and the “Orphan Black” social team are good creating and maintaining their community. It’s been placed in the “cult” category because it focuses on girls and clones and science, which is a a shame. But BBC America has been able to play on that exclusivity. The official account tweets directly to the #CloneClub and hosts #OBspec on Tumblr, a fan game where they’re writing their own scripts during the hiatus. They also have the “The Hive,” a writers blog where fans get recaps and behind the scenes treats directly from the source

You don’t really need to find the “Orphan Black” fans on social media because the network has done a nice job of giving them places to convene on official space — all the better to reach them and see what they’re thinking and when they’re watching.
