Freevee Surprisingly Revives American Rust for Season 2

American Rust has found a new home at Freevee.

The Showtime series, starring Maura Tierney and Jeff Daniels, was previously canceled after just one season. However, Freevee, the ad-supported streaming service from Amazon, decided to revive the show and add it to their slate of original programming.

Dan Futterman created the series, which is based on a 2009 novel of the same name by Philipp Meyer. The show takes place in the Rust Belt in Pennsylvania and revolves around Chief of Police Del Harris (Daniels) getting pulled into a murder investigation where a past lover (Tierney) is the prime suspect.

Tierney and Daniels will likely return for Season 2, as well as Futterman as executive producer and writer.

American Rust is exactly the type of gritty and engaging storytelling Amazon Freevee audiences love, and we could not be more excited to bring this prestige series to our customers, free of charge,” Lauren Anderson and Ryan Pirozzi, the co-heads of content and programming for Freevee, said in a statement. “We can’t wait to dive in with Boat Rocker and Dan Futterman to continue the story that intrigued audiences during the first season and to see the evolution of characters so expertly portrayed by Jeff and Maura in this next chapter.”
