Airline story, airline ad appear together

By Don Day

MSNBC.com today ran a wire service story on United’s plan to charge consumers $15 for the first checked bag. Ugh. Anyway – the story has been running with a Southwest Airlines ad that echoes the reporting in the story in each of my checks today. “As of July 1, Southwest Airlines will be the only U.S. carrier that permits two checked bags for free,” the story reads. The ad rotates between “No First Bag Fees, No Second Bag Fees, No Window/Aisle Fees” etc. It may or may not be contextual advertising – but the pairing caught my attention.
