A+E Networks get social for 2014 upfront

By Natan Edelsburg

A & ELost Remote attended A+E Networks upfront last night in NYC held at the Park Avenue Armory. The entire venue was designed as a social media heaven, giving attendees a chance to enjoy treats from their favorite shows and to of course take selfies with their favorite stars from A&E, HISTORY, H2, Lifetime, FYI and more. They went even further and even embedded a Social Media Lab to give fans a chance to be part of their favorite shows online. Here are the details of A+E’s most social upfront yet and some highlights of their programming announcements.

After stopping by the Social Media Lab, all you had to do was type in your name and Twitter handle into an iPad and before you knew it you were up on the big screen in the venue as a cast member on one of their popular shows. Here I am with the Wahlburgers (Mark Wahulburg and family were in attendance too).

Bates Motel cast members were also in attendance taking photos and selfies with fans on a Bates Motel room bed. Here they are with David McKilliop the Executive Vice President and General Manager of A&E Networks who presented last night.

A big theme of the night was the repetition of the fact that they have an extremely strong brand, no matter where you watch their content. A+E recently became the latest networks to offer an Apple TV app proving this.

AdAge’s Jeanine Poggi summed up some of their big programming announcements:

Each network highlighted some upcoming new programming, including the History miniseries “Texas Rising,” starring Bill Paxton; Lifetime’s dystopian thriller “The Lottery”; the dramedy “Unreal,” also on Lifetime; and A&E’s reality show, “Dog Wars,” about dogs that are paired with veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder.
