It Sounds Like a Harry Potter Series Might Finally Happen

As Ron Weasley might say, this news is “wicked!”

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Discovery International president Gerhard Zeiler talked about the company focusing on the “development of franchises” while recently delivering the RTS London keynote. In addition to Game of Thrones and DC, the Warner Bros. Discovery International boss reportedly mentioned Harry Potter as one of those franchises.

Rumors of a Harry Potter series on HBO Max have been in the tea leaves for a while, with The Hollywood Reporter saying it was in early development as far back as January 2021. The Wall Street Journal also reported this year that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav was planning on meeting with franchise creator J.K. Rowling to develop new content for HBO Max.

Zeiler’s comments will undoubtedly revive talk of a potential show.

Warner Bros. Discovery has already dipped into its Pensieve of Harry Potter IP to deliver Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. It also has Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses available for streaming.

HBO Max recently lost all 8 Harry Potter films, with the movies hopping on their broomsticks and flying over to Peacock. However, they will likely appear on HBO Max again since the two streamers keep passing the films between each other like they’re a quaffle.

And if Zeiler’s comments are to be believed, HBO Max might have some magical additions to the Harry Potter universe in the future as well.
