Hint Founder and CEO Kara Goldin on Breaking Down Walls

When I first heard her story, I knew I had to have her on CMO Moves. Former AOL executive turned entrepreneur Kara Goldin founded flavored water business Hint, breaking down beverage industry barriers and selling direct to consumers before DTC was even a thing. From applying to 90 jobs post-graduation in a multi-city adventure to building the largest independent, nonalcoholic beverage company in the U.S. that's not connected to Coca-Cola, Pepsi, or the other heavy hitters.

"I've thought about this for years, that the longer you continue to talk about things, often the higher your walls will get around you. Right? So, at some point, you just have to get over it or you have to break the walls down. ... I'm a huge believer that if you just go out and do it and not let the noise get in your way, lots of great things will happen," Kara told me.

Always quick and nimble, Kara also offers role-model moves on how to start, how to thrive and how to evolve while holding onto your core founding principles. And as if that wasn't enough, Kara is a fellow podcaster, a new author, and now taking on politics. Most importantly, she's an incredible woman, mother, partner, friend, and supporter of so many.

Now, celebrating 15 years since first hitting the shelves at Whole Foods, Kara sits down with me to reflect on why she started the company, how they handled pandemic panic buying, and what she’s doing to push policy in support of clean public water and health and wellness for all.
