Youssef Daoudi has signed a deal with First Second Books. He plans to create a biographical graphic novel profiling the illustrious jazz musician Thelonious Monk.
Daoudi lives and works in France; this project will be his debut English language project. The book, entitled Monk, will focus on the friendship shared between the jazz star and a baroness named Kathleen Annie Pannonica de Koenigswarter (a.k.a. Nica). The publisher has set the release date for 2018.
Daaudi gave this statement about the project: “When I was 18, I would draw while listening to Monk for hours. He was such an inspiration for me. When I knew about Nica, I was immediately obsessed by the project and images dawned on me with all the roaring and banging of that legendary era.”
