TED-Ed Lesson Introduces Debate on Whether or Not Proper Grammar Matters

By Maryann Yin

Do you have any grammar pet peeves? The TED-Ed team has crafted a lesson to discuss whether or not proper grammar matters.

The animated video embedded above examines the debate between those who favor prescriptivism versus those that prefer descriptivism. Over at the TED-Ed website, viewers can access a quiz, a discussion board, and more resources.

In the past, TED-Ed has crafted grammar lessons highlighting one-word sentences, when to use apostrophes, and the oxford comma. For those seeking a little grammar-related humor, check out College Humor’s “when not to correct people’s grammar” video and Weird Al Yankovic’s “Word Crimes” music video.
