An upcoming authorized biography of Steve Jobs from Simon & Schuster shot up to the top of best-seller lists last night, after Apple announced that Jobs had died. In addition, the publisher is moving up the release date for the book from Nov. 21 to Oct. 24.

The Wall Street Journal has linked to an AP story with more: “As of early Thursday morning, Walter Isaacson’s ‘Steve Jobs’ was No. 1 on Amazon.com and No. 3 on Barnes & Noble.com. Isaacson’s book includes extensive interviews with the Apple co-founder, who rarely discussed his private life. Isaacson has written best-selling biographies of Albert Einstein and Benjamin Franklin.”

Jobs passed away yesterday after losing a battle to cancer. He was 56. Apple posted this statement on its website in memory of Jobs: “Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor.”
