Indie publisher Sourcebooks has acquired its first title from its page on the digital writing and reading community Wattpad.
The publisher launched the ‘submit2sourcebooks’ program this past July as a way to scout talent. The project that caught their eye is the paranormal romance series, Undead Dating Service by Juliet Lyons. Acquisition editor Cat Clyne called the work, “Bridget Jones’s Diary…with vampires, a fresh concept, a touch of suspense, and a whole lot of snark.”
Wattpad allows aspiring writers to share work for editors to consider. Publishers are able to see how readers react to the works on the platform through reads, comments and followers.
Sourcebooks has previously discovered work on Wattpad from YA authors Natasha Preston and Ali Novak.
