By Maryann Yin

Sally Kohn (GalleyCat)Sally Kohn has signed a nonfiction deal with Algonquin Books. She has become well-known as a political commentator for CNN and a former progressive talking head for FOX News.

Amy Gash, senior editor at the publishing house, negotiated this deal with Emma Parry of Janklow & Nesbit Associates. Kohn’s book, tentatively entitled Mean: How Being Nicer Than Average Can Save Humanity, is set for release in Spring 2018. Back in October 2013, Kohn spoke on the TED stage about how both liberals and conservatives need to focus on emotional correctness to work together. Kohn gave this statement in the press release: “This is a critical moment in American culture, society, and politics. We have reached a boiling point of nastiness — which shows every sign of getting worse. Even beyond this election cycle, we in the United States and around the globe have a fundamental choice to make about what kind of people and what kind of society we’re going to be. I hope this book will be a warning and also point us toward solutions.”
