Randall Munroe to Contribute Content to 3 Science Textbooks

Thing Explainer Cover (GalleyCat)Randall Munroe has signed a deal with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to contribute work to textbooks. Munroe has become well-known as the creator of the xkcd webcomic and an author. In the past, he served as a roboticist for NASA.

The publisher will include some of Munroe’s pieces in the newly revised editions of HMH Chemistry ©2017, HMH Biology ©2017, and HMH Physics ©2017. The content will be sourced from Munroe’s 2015 nonfiction book, Thing Explainer. Some of the topics that his work will cover include the periodic table, animal cells, and nuclear reactors.

Munroe gave this statement in the press release: “I love learning about the science that governs the universe around us and want to share the delight of discovering how things work and why. When I was a student, I often came across charts and diagrams that opened my eyes to whole new areas of the world, and I’m excited to have a chance to pass that excitement on to others.” To learn more about Munroe, click here to watch his TED talk.
