Publishing and New War Veterans

ethanbrown23.jpgAs the war in Afghanistan escalates and the war in Iraq continues, the stories of veterans are more important than ever. In this difficult publishing environment, one writer picked a dark murder story to explore the effects of 21st Century battles on young soldiers.

Today’s guest on mediabistro.com’s Morning Media Menu was Ethan Brown, a freelance journalist and author of “Shake the Devil Off.” Brown discussed his new book, which investigates an grisly 2006 murder case involving an Iraq War veteran who killed his girlfriend and committed suicide in New Orleans.

He also shared his thoughts about Arianna Huffington’s new books site: “I think there should be more of that! Honestly, covering books is not very resource-intensive. It’s not like starting an investigative reporting unit. It’s great because there are huge gaps that need to be filled with the decline of all these book sections, and I think it’s easy to do it.”
