Penguin Random House #GiveaBook Campaign Now Live

By Dianna Dilworth

Penguin Random House has relaunched its holiday social media campaign that promotes books as gifts, and book donations to children in need during the holiday season.

Now in its second year, the effort encourages social media users to use the hashtag #GiveaBook on Facebook and Twitter between today and Dec. 24. In exchange Penguin Random House will donate one book to the literacy charity First Book, up to 35,000 times.

Last year the goal was 25,000 #GiveaBook posts, but social media users surpassed the goal, which is why the publisher upped its commitment this year. In addition, this year the organization has  created The Giving Map, a digital tool to help people discover where they can make donations at a local book retailer or library this holiday season. Booksellers can share info about their stores’ holiday book drives on this Giving Map Submission Form.

Chronicle Books also launched its #GiveBooks campaign today.
