The National Book Foundation has revealed plans to launch BookUp LGBTQ, a new book club for for LGBTQ teens in New York.
The organization will launch a BookUp website at the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI). Fellow and poet T’ai Freedom Ford will curate the reading list and provide books and activities tailored for these young readers. The booklist will be curated by LGBTQ authors including: Naomi Jackson, Garth Greenwell and Megan Kruse. The group will go on field trips to the New York Public Library’s Gay and Lesbian Collections, queer bookstores, and other historic and literary sites throughout New York.
“I believe that this opportunity will empower our readers and budding writers to build on their strengths and flourish in their communities,” stated Juan Williams, HMI’s Director of Academic Enrichment.
The new program will be run in partnership with Lambda Literary.
