Metallica Biography Coming from Da Capo

By Jason Boog

The rock band Metallica will get a two-volume biography from Da Capo Press. Written by rock author Paul Brannigan and music journalist Ian Winwood, the first volume of Birth. School. Metallica. Death will hit shelves in the fall of 2013.

DeFiore & Company agent Matthew Elblonk negotiated the deal (in association with Matthew Hamilton at Aitken Alexander) with Da Capo Press executive editor Ben Schafer.

The editor had this comment: “Metallica’s story is an epic narrative finally getting the same multi-book treatment as Elvis Presley, Charles Darwin, and several former Presidents.”

Here’s more about the two-volume set:

Their book will be the most comprehensive, complete, authoritative, and compelling narrative biography of Metallica to date, and will be based on 75 hours of rare interviews. Divided into two distinct books, Volume I will cover Metallica’s formative years in the underground, from the unassailable one-two-three punch of speed metal classics Ride the Lightening, Kill ‘Em All, and Master of Puppets to the mainstream breakthrough heralded by …and Justice for All and realized with the multi-platinum success of The Black Album. Volume II will cover Metallica after breaking through to the mainstream, the megatours, excess, and many challenges and successes that followed.
