By Maryann Yin

Mary Norris gave a talk at the TED2016 conference on her career as a copy-editor for The New Yorker. We’ve embedded the full presentation in the video above—what do you think?

According to the TED blog, Norris has devoted three decades to this profession. For her, the mission behind copy-editing is to “make the author look good.”

Norris elaborates further on this topic in her 2015 book, Between You & Me: Confessions of a Comma Queen. To hear more from this “comma queen,” click here to watch Norris deliver a performance at The Moth stage.
