Kirsten Dunst will direct a film adaptation based on the Sylvia Plath classic, The Bell Jar. This project marks her debut as a feature film director.
Vanity Fair reports that Dunst collaborated with Nellie Kim to write the script. Dakota Fanning has signed on to play the lead protagonist Esther Greenwood.
Here’s more from Variety: “In the book, Greenwood takes an internship at a magazine in New York City, and then begins to suffer a mental breakdown when she returns home to Boston. The novel is the only book ever published by Plath, who committed suicide in 1963.” (via The Huffington Post)
