Jesse Plemons has signed on for a role in a film adaptation based on The Bell Jar. The story comes from Sylvia Plath’s acclaimed 1963 novel.
Variety reports that Plemons will play a character named Lenny Shepherd. Dakota Fanning will portray the lead protagonist Esther Greenwood. This project marks the directorial debut for actress Kirsten Dunst.
Here’s more from Deadline: “Set in the 1950s, the story follows a young woman from the suburbs of Boston who wins a summer internship at a prominent women’s magazine in New York City. She is neither stimulated nor excited by the big city or its glamourous lifestyle and instead finds herself unable to adapt to the experience and becomes mentally unstable. Dunst is co-writing the screenplay with Nellie Kim and the film is going into production in early 2017.” (via Slash Film)
