How a Modern Baby Thinks about Reading

By Jason Boog

The one-year-old reader in the video embedded above gives publishers a glimpse of future readership–the baby can’t understand why a print magazine doesn’t have all the digital functionality of an iPad app.

YouTube user called the video “A Magazine Is an iPad That Does Not Work,” but book publishers should pay attention as well. What do you think? Should we be inspired or worried by this video?

Here’s more from the author of the video: “Technology codes our minds, changes our OS. Apple products have done this extensively. The video shows how magazines are now useless and impossible to understand, for digital natives. It shows real life clip of a 1-year old, growing among touch screens and print. And how the latter becomes irrelevant. Medium is message. Humble tribute to Steve Jobs, by the most important person : a baby.” (Via BuzzFeed)

If you want to learn more about the children’s publishing app world, our Publishing App Expo on December 7-8 will explore this new market–helping publishers, authors and readers use these new tools.
