harrypotterJ. K. Rowling has signed on as a co-producer for a Harry Potter play. The author behind the beloved Harry Potter book series will not write the script, but she does plan on serving as a collaborator with a playwright.

According to The Daily Mail, this theatrical production will open in London’s West End sometime in 2015. An announcement on Facebook revealed that this project “will explore the previously untold story of Harry’s early years as an orphan and outcast. Featuring some of our favourite characters from the Harry Potter books, this new work will offer a unique insight into the heart and mind of the now legendary young wizard.”

As of this writing, that Facebook post has drawn more than 17,000 “likes.” Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, two seasoned theatrical producers, presented the idea for this project to Rowling who felt that it “really made sense.” Rowling has stated in a past interview that pop star Michael Jackson wanted to create a Harry Potter musical, but she turned him down.
