Elizabeth Gilbert has been hired as a monthly columnist at O Magazine. She recently announced on Facebook that her first column has been published in this month’s issue.
Gilbert’s piece, entitled “The Kind Gesture that Helps Elizabeth Gilbert Find the Light On Her Worst Days,” features an encounter that she shared with a bus driver. This meeting taught her what it means to “be the light.” Here’s an excerpt:
“How we behave matters because within human society everything is contagious—sadness and anger, yes, but also patience and generosity. Which means we all have more influence than we realize. No matter who you are, or where you are, or how mundane or tough your situation may seem, I believe you can illuminate your world.”
