Don M. Mankiewicz Has Died

Pen and PaperDon M. Mankiewicz has died. He was 93 years old.

As a writer, Mankiewicz specialized in creating novels and screenplays. The Los Angeles Times reports that his first novel, entitled The Trial, was published in 1954 and later adapted into a film featuring Dorothy McGuire and Glenn Ford.

According to Deadline.com, Mankiewicz “received an Oscar nomination in for his screenplay adaptation of I Want to Live!, a 1958 film about a prostitute falsely accused of murder. It was loosely based on the true story of Barbara Graham, who was put to death in California‚Äôs gas chamber three years earlier.”
