Does ‘The Rabbit Who Wants to Fall Asleep’ Work?

By Dianna Dilworth

Rabbits 200 (GalleyCat)The Rabbit Who Wants To Fall Asleep, a self-published bedtime story by Swedish behavioral psychologist and linguist Carl-Johan Forssen Ehrlin, is shooting up Amazon’s bestsellers list because of its promise to put kids to sleep immediately. But does it really work?

The book claims to use psychological techniques to encourage kids to relax and drift off to sleep. NPR put it to the test on a two-year-old named Kai, but unfortunately the book didn’t live up to its promise. Here is more from NPR:

At first, Kai seemed to be falling under the book’s spell. But that didn’t last long. He started asking for his truck book and eventually got up to get it himself before climbing back up on his mother’s lap. Loeschner gamely continued down the rabbit path, but Kai kept interrupting her and eventually he ran out of the room altogether.
