Disney and Sony Pictures both plan to shoot live-action film adaptations inspired by the legend of the Chinese female warrior, Hua Mulan. The story of Hua Mulan was first shared in a centuries-old poetic ballad.
Here’s more from The Wrap: “While no plot details were revealed about how Sony’s ‘Mulan’ will differ from Disney’s planned live-action adaptation of its animated hit, studio’s version is a Chinese co-production and will feature a mostly Chinese cast and lead. The film will be made through Sony Pictures International Productions.”
Disney released the animated version of Mulan back in 1998. Deadline reports that Sony has recruited several people for this project. Alex Graves will take the helm as the director. Doug Belgrad has agreed to serve as a producer. Jason Keller has come on board as the screenwriter. (via The A.V. Club)
