Borders to Shutter Tennessee Distribution Center with 300 Employees

Borders.GIFBorders has decided to close its distribution center in LaVergne, Tennessee, a center rocked by layoffs over the last year. The center will close in July.

Here’s more from WKRN.com: “The more than 300 employees at the Borders Books and Music distribution center in LaVergne were notified Tuesday morning that the facility will be closing later this year. The move comes after more than 200 jobs were cut at the center located to the southeast of Nashville since 2009.”

The struggling bookstore chain has faced bankruptcy rumors for weeks. Last week, AnnArbor.com had a gloomy quote from University of Michigan law professor John Pottow: “The amount of losses they’re incurring is not something where they can avoid (restructuring).” (Via Publishers Weekly)
