Beaufort Is Publishing The Jewel of Medina in US

sherry-jones-medina.jpgPW Daily files a report this morning indicating that Beaufort Books, the press that burst onto the industry radar last year by publishing If I Did It for the Goldman family, has become the new American publisher for The Jewel of Medina, Sherry Jones‘s novel about the prophet Muhammad’s wife which Random House declined to publish earlier this year when told it might incite terrorist attacks.

The news is not officially confirmed, and won’t be until Monday, but PW has sources claiming that “Beaufort publisher Eric Kampmann… and his sales force have been soliciting orders, aiming for a pub date in late October.”

UPDATE: The press release has been leaked ahead of schedule: It’s official, it’s Beaufort, and it’s for both Jewel of Medina and the sequel. Jones cites Beaufort’s “track record of support for free speech and expression” as a deciding factor, along with their “gumption and verve.”
