Barbara Kingsolver has won the first Richard C. Holbrooke Distinguished Achievement Award from the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. The award comes with a $10,000 honorarium.

Here’s more from the release: “The award, which was formerly known as the Lifetime Achievement Award, was renamed in honor of the late Richard C. Holbrooke, the celebrated U.S. diplomat … Holbrooke had been serving as special advisor on Afghanistan and Pakistan under President Obama when he passed away in December 2010.”

Kingsolver (pictured, via) has written on themes of social justice, bio-diversity and community. Some of her most celebrated titles include The Poisonwood Bible (1998), Small World: Essays (2002) and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (2007). Journalist Kati Martin, Holbrooke’s widow, will present the award to Kingsolver at a November ceremony in Dayton.
