Authors Talk About Why They Write Diverse Books: VIDEO

By Maryann Yin

The We Need Diverse Books organization recruited more than a dozen authors for the “We Write For You” video. CEO Ellen Oh and vice president of librarian services Dhonielle Clayton introduce themselves and talk about why they founded the organization.

Clayton explains: “Books can change the world just like you can change the world. We want you to know that we create for you and we write for you so that you can go out and change the world.”

In this moving piece (embedded above), the participating writers talk about the reasons why they create diverse stories. Some of the participants include George novelist Alex Gino, Two Boys Kissing author David Levithan, prolific writer Alex London, young adult novelist Marie Lu, and Divergent trilogy author Veronica Roth.
