Author Barry Hines Has Died

Novelist Barry Hines has died at the age of 76.

The author of nine novels and many television scripts was best known for his novel A Kestrel for a Knave, which was adapted by Ken Loach into the classic film Kes.

Hines was born South Yorkshire and worked as an apprentice mining surveyor and then studied Physical Education at Loughborough Training College. He taught for several years in London and Yorkshire before becoming a full-time writer. has more:

Hines, who collaborated with Loach on a number of other projects, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2009.
